Hi, I’m Forrest Scherer, an artist living in Los Angeles.

Transforming studio production into visual puzzles, my paintings, prints, and text-based installations rearrange and decompose language into spatial configurations with pliable meanings. My abstract works invoke haptic technology with both the flatness and sensuality with which their surfaces are painted.

Submitting to language’s ability to imprint on identity and affect felt experience, I play with legibility, messaging, and framing. I elicit, collapse and obscure familiar visual language, a deeply contemplative and rigorous process for me in the studio. 

Over the last handful of years, I have been taking up—and taking apart—the subject of my own transitioning, both conceptually and phenomenologically. It is my intention that my work, my games, my propositions, represent some of the material and textual processes through which trans identities are formed and performed.
